We are serious about placemaking.
Between Design is a Landscape Institute registered practice led by the founding director, Dr Wei Deng. As landscape architects, we recognise today’s significant challenges, such as climate change, environmental pollution, and biodiversity emergency, which are highlighted in the article “Big Ambition: International Landscape” (Landscape Journal, winter, 2019), written by Wei after he judged the first LI international award in 2018. Therefore, we seek viable and creative placemaking solutions to deliver sustainable spaces for future generations.
Our services focus on artistic place creating, view illustration, landscape-led masterplan, sustainable urban design, and art commission, including graphic communication. The range of work extends from undertaking site appraisals, capacity testing, concept masterplans, and detailed layouts to achieving planning on all scale residential, leisure, education, and mixed schemes.

Team
Dr. Wei DENG (CMLI)
Before establishing Between Design, Wei was a principal landscape architect at the AECOM Manchester office and worked for several northwest and Yorkshire landscape practices. Wei is a chartered member of LI and has 19 years of experience in the UK landscape industry along with being involved in several awarded projects. He has expertise in largescale housing, leisure, and urban regeneration schemes. Wei has worked with various clients across the UK, such as local developers, community groups, and public sector organisations.
As a shortlist of SKY TV’s 2019 “Landscape Artist of the Year,” Wei also specialises in producing illustration hand sketches to demonstrate proposed places. He has a PhD in landscape architecture from the University of Sheffield and a master’s degree in architectural design and theory from China.
Wei is very active in the landscape profession; he is on the Landscape Institute Education Accreditation subcommittee and a North West Branch committee member. Wei is regularly invited as a judge for LI’s annual awards and giving lectures for various universities.
